Two confirmed dead, 20 injured in Kano tragic trailers crash
At least two persons were confirmed dead and twenty others injured when a trailer loaded with goods, animals and passengers lost control in Kano and collided with another vehicle.
A statement by the CRC Abdullahi Labaran, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lano csaid the fatal road traffic crash occurred on Saturday, 18th April, 2026, at about 9:20 am along Maiduguri Road at Wudil T–Junction.
The statement explained that the crash involved two vehicles, one of which was a DAF trailer loaded with animals, goods, and passengers, which departed from Wudil Market en route to Lagos State”
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver lost control due to over-speeding while approaching the T–Junction, resulting in a collision”
“A total of thirty (30) male adults were involved in the crash. Out of this number, twenty (20) sustained varying degrees of injuries, eight (8) were rescued unhurt, while two (2) persons lost their lives’ the statement explained.
The spokesperson remarked that upon the receipt of the distress call at about 09:25 hours, FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and promptly carried out rescue operations.
“The injured victims were evacuated to Wudil General Hospital for medical attention, while the obstruction caused by the crash has been successfully cleared to restore free flow of traffic”
Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, FRSC Kano Sector Command, Idris Mohammed Lawal, has expressed concern over the continued disregard for road safety regulations, particularly the dangerous practice of conveying passengers in trailers meant for goods and animals.
He reiterated that over-speeding and overloading remain major causes of road traffic crashes and called on drivers and transport operators to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
He further urged the members of the public to avoid boarding such vehicles and to prioritize their safety at all times.
