Abure Rules Out Supporting Peter Obi in 2027, Open to Tinubu, Atiku Alliance
The immediate past National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has declared his willingness to align with President Bola Tinubu or former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election, while ruling out support for former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.
Abure said his decision to support any candidate would depend on the outcome of the pending Supreme Court case over the Labour Party’s leadership, as well as his political interests, ideology and the acceptability of the candidate. He also vowed to mobilise his supporters against Obi, accusing him of squandering the goodwill and political structure that contributed to his strong performance in the 2023 presidential election.

The former LP chairman, who said he was not currently negotiating with any presidential candidate, maintained that his supporters remained loyal to the party structure under his control. He accused Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti of undermining the party’s leadership by dismantling its organisational structure from the ward to the national level. However, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Obi’s camp dismissed his position, insisting they had moved on from the former LP chairman and were focused on the 2027 election.
