An aspirant for the position of Ekiti state governor come 2022, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) has been speaking on why he prefers direct primary for his party.
A serving senator for Ekiti Central at the national assembly under All Progressives’ Congress, APC said he prefers direct primary because it will give power to the people at the grass roots to elect their candidate.
Bamidele made this known after submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at the APC secretariat on Friday.
The form was submitted to the Director of Administration at the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja, Abubakar Suleiman.
Bamidele said: “I will prefer direct mode of primaries. It is a way of ensuring participatory democracy. It will ensure that most popular candidate emerges. That is my choice. It is a way of giving power to the people.”
If we do direct primary in an isolated election in Ekiti, there will be no logistics concern that will upset everything.
“The leadership of the party knows what to do in the interest of the party.”
Bamidele expressed confidence that he will emerge as the candidate of the party at the primaries on January 22, 2022.
He said consultation was still ongoing with stakeholders in Ekiti State, adding that during his campaign across the 16 local governments in the state, he was able to address people’s concern.
