The Governor of Niger State Abubakar Bello, has on Saturday, declared a total lockdown in the State for two weeks, from Monday, April 13.
The Governor made the declaration while briefing Journalists, after an extensive emergency Executive meeting, at the Government House, Minna, the State capital.
He said that the decision became necessary, after the confirmation of 1 positive case of the deadly coronavirus in the State, on Friday, as announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.
He disclosed that the infected patient is a returnee from Lagos State, and resides at Limawa community, in Minna.
Governor Abubakar Bello noted that Limawa community will also be in isolation for the two weeks period, with health workers engaged to sensitize members of the community within the period.
All religious gatherings in Churches and Mosques have been suspended till further notice, the Governor added.
Governor Abubakar Bello said that the State Government is liaising with the Local Tailors Association in the State, for the production of face masks, in view of the scarcity of the item.
He also said that health workers would be engaged at strategic points with thermometers, to carry out regular temperature tests.
