Court restrains Rivers assembly from sacking governor

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Isiokpo Division in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state has issued an interim order restraining the state House of Assembly and the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule from carrying out any action concerning the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Also restrained are the House Deputy Speaker, Dumle Mao; the Clerk of the House and the state Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi.

Presiding Judge, Justice O. Ben-Whyte, in suit No,IHC/230/CS/2023 filed by the governor through his counsel, Damian Okoro, ordered that the parties to the suit should maintain the status quo pending the determination of the motion on notice and thereafter adjourned till November 14, 2023 for motion on notice.

The order reads, “It is hereby ordered that the parties in the case maintain status quo in the case by the applicant as the Governor of Rivers State pending the application of the motion on notice.

“The case is hereby adjourned to the 14th of November, 2023 for the argument of the motion on notice.”
