Fourteen graduants of Wellspring University in Benin City, Edo State will bag first class degree honours in the 11th Convocation ceremony of the university holding on Saturday, October 21, 2023.
This was made known by the Vice-Chancellor of Wellspring University, Professor Issac Rotimi Ajayi to Journalists on Tuesday.
He said the ceremony would feature an award of honorary degrees to distinguished and deserving individuals for outstanding public service.
“The ceremony will also feature the award of honorary degree to a distinguished and eminent personality and media industry leader, Mr. John Olatchy Momoh, the Chairman/CEO of Channels Television, for his outstanding public service and his immense contributions to the development of education in Nigeria and globally by his profession.”
Professor Issac Rotimi also elaborated more on the programmes for the convocation.
“The Convocation programme will kick start on Thursday, the 19th of October, 2023 with a Special Keep-Fit Exercise for all staff and students between 6.00 and 7.00 a.m. This will be a prelude to a Football showdown between the Staff team and Students team later in the day by 4.00pm in our Football field.
“On Friday, 20th of October, 2023, the entire Wellspring family will convene before God in the University Chapel for a special Thanksgiving Service at 10.00 a.m. And in the cool of the evening of that day, the Alumni Association would be formally welcoming the new graduands into its fold with an Alumni Reunion and Dinner on the campus by 5.00 pm.
“The Convocation celebration will command a remarkable and momentous attention on Saturday October 21, 2023 at 9:00 am with a Convocation Lecture to be delivered by Engr. (Dr.) Ayodele Abioye, the Managing Director, BUA Foods Plc, who will speak on the topic: ‘Career and Life Transitions in Contemporary World’.
“The day’s activities will get to a crescendo by the Conferment of First Degrees, and Higher Degrees on graduands by the Chancellor of the University, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo. And as it is the tradition of the University to raise academic excellence and standards, numerous academic prizes endowed by distinguished individuals and corporate organisations will be won by graduands who have excelled in their respective disciplines, he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that 43 of the graduands bag 2nd Class Upper Division, 44 bag 2nd Class Lower division, while 11 will fall into the other categories as 98 are to be awarded Postgraduate diplomas and Masters degrees respectively.
He also noted that the university has a good academic standing with all its academic programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“Let me assure you distinguished ladies and gentlemen that Wellspring University remains in good academic standing with all its academic programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Our Nursing Science recently got full accreditation of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in addition to its NUC accreditation. Our Accounting programme also enjoys the full accreditation of NUC and that of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in fulfillment of our quest to professionally prepare our students for global market competitiveness.
“The University also continues to promote scholarship and the advancement of learning through Conferences and Workshop it regularly hosts to discuss and proffer solution to critical issues of national importance. The University hosted the 2023 Conference of the Nigerian Library Association Edo State Chapter and the celebration of the 2023 International Youth day in Edo State.
“We continue to make our mark with some of our alumni winning recognitions. One of them Miss Awonuga Adesola just obtained her Ph.D in a high rated University while many others are making waves in other sectors of the international economy. Some have set up businesses, becoming self-reliant and successful entrepreneurs making a difference in their character and integrity reflecting the acquired training in the University, He added.
