Buhari’s Cabinet: Oshiomhole, Moghalu, Others May Emerge
A report by New Telegraph indicates that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Chief Niyi Adebayo and Chief George Moghalu might be selected as part of Buhari’s cabinet Ministers in the President’s second term.
The trio are current members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC’s National Working Committee, NWC.
Oshiomhole, a former Governor of Edo State is the current National Chairman, Adebayo who is a former Governor of Ekiti State is the Deputy National Chairman (South), while Moghalu, a former Governorship Aspirant in Anambra State is the current National Auditor of the party.
According to the report, the National Leadership of the APC is on the verge of organising its NWC in order to restore members confidence and tame the crisis in the party’s Leadership.
The report quoted a source in the Presidency saying the restructuring of the party will take the form of pulling some NWC members away and injecting new members to restore confidence of members in the Leadership of the party.
“Some NWC members would be appointed Ministers, while some will get Ambassadorial posting.
“Among those that will be appointed Ministers are the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole (Edo); Deputy National Chairman South, Chief Niyi Adebayo (Ekiti) and the National Auditor, Chief George Moghalu (Anambra),” the source said.
It would be recalled that the APC Deputy National Chairman North, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, had last month, asked Oshiomhole to resign, accusing him of causing the poor performance of the party in some States the last general elections.
According to Shuaibu, that APC lost State Governorship elections, National and State Assembly seats as a result of lack of capacity on the part of the National Chairman.
Also, the former APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, accused the APC NWC of trading the party’s primaries.
APC National Legal Adviser, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, had last year, written to Oshiomhole, accusing him of usurping his position in the NWC.
However, the Presidential source said that the APC National Chairman cannot be singled out for blame for the crisis that rocked the party’s primaries as he could not have acted in isolation.
According to the source, the party Leadership believes that the NWC should be pruned by at least 50 percent to restore credibility to the party Leadership.
To achieve this, the Presidency and some National Leadership members of the APC have agreed that some NWC members will be eased out by being made Ministers, Ambassadors and Head of Government agencies.
The APC NWC is made up of 21 members and about 12 of them might be relieved of their positions in the party’s NWC.
President Buhari’s cabinet ministers selection has been a national discourse for sometimes now.

Electricity, telecom tariffs increase unconscionable, should be stopped – Shehu Sani
Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has described the planned increase in electricity and telecom tariffs as unconscionable.
The statement comes after the telecoms regulator last week approved the increase in mobile tariffs.
The federal government also recently said that plans were ongoing to increase electricity tariffs “over the next few months.”
However, Sani, who said the government’s plan is unreasonable, insisted that it should be halted.
The ex-lawmaker also expressed his support for the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the scheduled protest against the government’s proposal, calling it a welcome development.
“The planned increase in electricity tariffs in the midst of poor power supply and the proposal to increase telecom tariffs is unconscionable and should be halted. The scheduled labour union protest is a welcome development,” he posted on X.

Trump to cut off funding to South Africa, gives reason
The United States President, Donald Trump, has revealed his decision to cut off all future funding to South Africa, citing poor treatment of “certain classes of people.”
Trump made this known on Sunday in a post on Truth Social, his social media platform.
According to Trump, South Africa was seizing land and mistreating some citizens without concern for the violations of their rights.
“South Africa is confiscating land and treating certain classes of people VERY BADLY.
“I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation of this situation has been completed!” Trump wrote.
Reports suggest that the American leader may be defending White South Africans, some of whom have alleged that the South African policy is unfair to them.

Telecoms tariff hike: Nigerian govt in last-minute move to avert NLC shutdown
There are indications that the federal government will on Monday meet with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to stop the planned Tuesday nationwide protest against the 50 percent telecommunications tariff hike.
A reliable source familiar with the matter, who preferred anonymity, disclosed this on Monday morning, noting that the meeting between the NLC leadership and the federal government is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Monday.
The source said the meeting was a “dialogue on matters of national interest as it affects Nigerian workers.”
According to the source, it will be an inter-ministerial meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), purposely to resolve issues raised by the NLC concerning the federal government’s approved upward adjustment to telecommunications tariffs, which the NLC, its allies, and others are vehemently opposing.
This comes as the NLC is already mobilizing workers for a mass protest tomorrow (February 4) against the 50 percent tariff hike approval.
On Thursday last week, in a letter to affiliate unions and state councils, NLC General Secretary Emma Ugboaja urged them to mobilize other Nigerians to send a serious message to the government.
The planned protest follows the 50 percent telecom tariff approval by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on January 20, 2025.
The approval had sparked widespread rejection among telecom subscribers.
