Why you should stop sending money home – Peter Obi engages Nigerians in UK
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians residing in the United Kingdom to stop giving money to people in Nigeria who seek financial assistance from them.
Obi made the call during a town hall meeting with his supporters in the UK on Sunday.
He urged them to rather encourage their relatives and friends back home to vote for credible leaders.
The former governor of Anambra State maintained that Nigerians in the diaspora should prioritize electing responsible leaders rather than continue sending money to people struggling.
Obi, who acknowledged that he was not a saint, however, declared that his record as governor of Anambra State demonstrated his capacity for responsible leadership, pointing out that he saved a huge amount of money during his tenure.
“You have people at home in Nigeria today who are begging you for money. Tell them no! Let’s put somebody who has proven…I’m not saying I’m a saint, but at least, I have said something”.
“I was not the only governor, and I challenge people if one governor can save 10 per cent of the money I saved, but there is nobody that did that,” he said.
The NDC candidate added that Nigeria will only experience change when citizens are tired of the corrupt leaders and opt for better governance.
