Former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau has expressed bitterness over the failure of the Tinubu – led administration to put food on the table of Nigerians.
Shekarau, a one time Senator and a leading chieftain of the People Democratic Party (PDP) spoke on Wednesday in Kano at a media interactive session to mark his 70th birthday celebration.
The former governor further slammed the Tinubu administration over its failure to address the ravaging insecurity in the North and in other parts of Nigeria.
In the words of Shekarau, “
A situation where people are being murdered, slaughtered like animals is totally unacceptable”.
He added that, “There is no nation without criminality. There is no nation without criminals. We are not saying that government should eliminate criminals…but we are saying that government should bring down the criminality to the barest minimum.
Shekarau was optimistic that a serious government should be able to reduce the wave of crimes in the country and prayed that Allah will give the best people the opportunity to salvage the unfortunate situation.
Speaking on the failure of the government to address the hardship faced by Nigerians,  Shekarau insisted that whatever the government does with the economy, “so long as it does not create food for the people, it is rubbish and unhelpful.
The former governor noted thst food is the most important aspect of the lives of the people, saying that if there is an easy access to food, then Nigerians will have no problem with life.
“I believe that Government has the responsibility to protect the lives and property of the people and to create the opportunity for people to eat well”
“if you not are able to eat well, to hell with your good roads to hell with your schools and to hell with your electricity. Nobody will listen to you. But if you make it easy for the people to eat well and live well, the people will be peaceful.
The celebrant who expressed gratitude to God for his life , also reiterated his stance against the coalition of individual members of political parties.
Commenting on the ADC, he stressed that,  ” I don’t call it a coalition. it is “A” leaving party  x  to join party “Y.” That is no coalition. It cannot be addressed as coalition. None of them left his own party and none of them came to the coalition with his own party”.
“And without sounding immodest,  what has become of the ADC today? All of them in ADC are struggling to be elsewhere.
“And I am inviting them to come back to join the biggest of the leading political parties- the PDP. The PDP is the only party of the parties that were registered in 1999 that is still surviving. And it will continue to survive by the grace of God- no matter the turbulence” he declared.
