Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi has said there is a need to purposefully confront Nigeria problem openly and head on rather than being swept under the carpet or simply wished away.

According to the governor, the stability and progress of the country requires “deliberate effort by citizens and those entrusted with leadership to advance national agenda regardless of challenges.”

Speaking the public presentation of his recently published book titled “Unfinished Greatness: Envisioning a New Nigeria” at the NAF Conference Centre Abuja, Fayemi said the Nigeria idea and ideal still remained strong and indestructible with emphasis on the need for all Nigerians to purposefully support a national rebirth agenda built on unity, justice, freedom, equity and rule of law.

He stressed the need for leaders, during adversity, to take the responsibility for preserving the ideals of national agenda grounded on oneness and unity and also provide hope of better days for the citizens by undertaking courageous reform needed.

Noting that Nigeria had had moment of greatness in all areas of national and human endeavours, Fayemi stressed the need to perceive and understand difficult days and problem as part of the “unfinished quest for greatness”

He said; “despite the difficulties we face as a country, the Nigerian idea and ideal remain strong and indestructible. And that is really the essence of what I have devoted a good part of my life and career to: an unshakable faith in the fact that we are better off together and in unity than in fragments and pieces.

“I want to be clear. We are faced with a conjuncture of complex and uncommon challenges which must be confronted openly, head-on, and purposefully, rather than being denied, swept under the carpet, or simply wished away.

“Problems must be understood to be part of our unfinished quest for greatness. And greatness has to be our permanent watchword as the only destiny that is acceptable to us and to Global Africa which earnestly looks up to us for leadership.

“Nigeria will surely fulfill destiny and do so as a united country built on justice, freedom, equity and the rule of law. This is the national agenda of our times. I invite each and every one of us to partake in it for the national rebirth we must deliver.” he added.

Trump slams Biden for commuting death sentence of 37 prisoners to life

Donald Trump

US President-elect, Donald Trump, has blasted the incumbent president Joe Biden for commuting the sentences of almost every American federal prisoner on death row, as he prepares to replace the Democrat in the White House.

Gatekeeper recalls that President Biden, in his final month in office, announced that he was converting the death sentences of 37 of the 40 inmates awaiting federal execution to life without the possibility of parole.

The inmates included nine people convicted of murdering fellow prisoners, four for murders committed during bank robberies and one who killed a prison guard.

“Joe Biden just commuted the Death Sentence on 37 of the worst killers in our country,” Trump posted on Truth Social, his social media platform.

“When you hear the acts of each, you won’t believe that he did this. Makes no sense. Relatives and friends are further devastated. They can’t believe this is happening,” Trump said.

Biden had imposed a moratorium on the federal death penalty but was under pressure to act further before leaving the White House on January 20, amid signals from Republican Trump that he would resume the practice.

Three men were excluded from the move: one of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombers, a gunman who murdered 11 Jewish worshippers in 2018 and a white supremacist who shot nine Black churchgoers dead in 2015.

Again, NNPCL reduces fuel price

Published

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, has again reduced its retail price for Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, to N965 per litre.

DAILY POST’s correspondent, who went around NNPCL retail outlets in Abuja, observed that the state-owned oil firm has adjusted its pump price to N965 per litre from N1040.

NNPCL filling stations along Kubwa Expressway now dispense PMS at N965 per litre.

This represents an N75 price reduction. Earlier last week, the firm had reduced its petrol to N1,040 per litre.

Meanwhile, the latest price cut comes after Dangote Refinery, in partnership with MRS filling station, reduced its petrol to N935 from N1,060 per litre.

Accordingly, Nigerians now buy petrol at N965 and N935 per litre at NNPCL and MRS filling stations in Abuja. The differential between MRS and NNPCL now stands at N30 per litre.

It was observed that a PMS price war has broken out between Dangote Refinery and NNPCL.

Reacting to the development in a statement on Monday, the national president of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, PETROAN, Billy Gillis-Harry, and the spokesperson of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Chinedu Ukadike, were optimistic about further petrol cuts amid competition.

The President, who said this in a Christmas message on Tuesday, urged the citizens to pray for the nation’s leaders at all levels.

Felicitating Nigerians on the Christmas celebration, Tinubu said, “On this joyous Christmas Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to Christians across Nigeria and worldwide as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, as narrated in the Holy Scriptures.

“Nigeria is on a promising path of restoration and progress, with every indication pointing toward a bright future. In the spirit of this season, let us renew our hope and belief in a prosperous Nigeria.

“Let us extend similar support and prayers to our nation’s leaders. With your backing, we can serve our country diligently and strive for prosperity.”

According to him, Christmas embodies the fulfilment of divine prophecy and symbolises the triumph of love, peace, and unity.

The President said the event is a poignant reminder that light can emerge even in the darkest times, bringing solace and hope, adding that this belief resonates with people of all faiths.

He also sympathised with the families of victims who died in the recent stampedes in Abuja, Ibadan and Anambra.

While describing the incidents as tragic, Tinubu prayed that such events do not happen in the nation again.

“Recent tragic events in Oyo, Okija, and Abuja deeply sadden us, and our thoughts are with those who continue to suffer from these heartbreaking incidents.

“We earnestly pray that such misfortunes do not revisit our families and communities and that the lives of innocents are never again cut short.

“I offer my deepest sympathies to the families enduring pain and loss this year, whether from floods, fires, or accidents.

“May we all find comfort and solace in our faith, the support of loved ones, and the abiding presence of Jesus Christ. Our compassionate and merciful God stands with the weak, the brokenhearted, and the sick,” he added.
