The Edo State Government and the Federal Government have constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killings of several hunters on 27 March 2025 in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.
Gate reports that the state governor, Monday Okpebholo, disclosed this on Thursday while receiving a delegation from Kano State, led by the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, at the Government House in Benin City.
According to reports, the Kano State delegation was in Edo to present its committee report on the incident.
Governor Okpebholo noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was displeased with the incident and reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the state—and the country at large—remains safe for all to live and conduct business.
According to him: “This incident has opened our eyes and we are ready to address a lot of issues about the country and how to make life better for us all. The president is not happy with what has happened and he wants us to see to the end of this dastardly act.
“The President personally wants to see to the end of this issue. I want to also let you know that the President and Edo State Government have set up a committee to find out the remote cause(s) of the incident and put a lasting solution to the issue.
“This report you have submitted will actually help us so that we do not have to worry about you. A lot will be done and made open to the public to know what the committee is doing on the issue.
“We are peace-loving people in Edo State. We love those living with us in the State. Kano and Edo states have been collaborating in the area of commerce and industry.”
In his remarks, the Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, expressed appreciation to Governor Okpebholo for his earlier visit to Kano.
Gwarzo said the delegation came to Edo to thank the governor for the calm and responsible approach he adopted during his visit to Kano concerning the incident.
“The governor of Kano State set up a committee to screen and verify, to establish the names, numbers, next of kin and those who survived the attack. We have been able to carry out these activities and we have come out with a report which we are here to submit to Your Excellency.
“You promised us that justice will be done and we believe you on this Mr. Governor. We need a transparent process on this issue. Sixteen persons lost their dear lives from five local government areas of Kano State,” he stated.
The Edo State Governor and the Kano delegation also visited Uromi, where they met with members of the Hausa community in the area.

Plateau, Borno killings: Your security policies, infrastructure failed woefully – Atiku slams Tinubu

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the renewed attacks in Plateau State that claimed many innocent lives on Sunday.
Atiku lashed out at President Bola Tinubu, saying his security policy and infrastructure have failed woefully.
On Sunday, about 47 people were killed in Zike community in the Kimakpa area of the Kwali district of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The deadly attack took place just over a week after a similar attack in Bokkos Local Government Area in which scores of people were also killed and properties destroyed.
Atiku Abubakar also criticised the upsurge in terrorist attacks in Borno State, which has led to the loss of lives and territories to Boko Haram insurgents.
In a statement by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku said that these manifestations are indicative of the woeful failure of both the security policy and infrastructure of the Tinubu-led administration.
He, therefore, called on the Federal Government to take tougher proactive measures to deal with what he called “these disgraceful incidents that challenge our national security.”
Atiku explained that “every sincere Nigerian should be worried about the frequency and impunity with which terrorists and bandits attack innocent people in the country, especially in Northern Nigeria, which has become the epicentre of terrorist violence in the country.”
According to Atiku, the delay in the prosecution of captured terrorists and bandits in custody since 2016 has emboldened the mass murderers to kill with impunity.
“If the government had applied the same energy in the prosecution of terrorists and bandits as it did in the trial of political critics, it would have gone a long way to send a powerful message to the outlaws that there are consequences for mass murder,” Atiku said.
According to Atiku, the prosecution of terrorists and bandits should be accorded the highest priority by the Attorney General of the Federation.
He explained that there should be special courts to fast-track the trial and conviction of terrorists in the country.
“Hundreds of terrorists and bandits have been in custody since 2016 without trial, and the delay in bringing them to justice is demoralising to our security forces. If terrorists and bandits are captured and then are left in custody longer than necessary without trial, it will undermine the efforts and sacrifices of our security forces,” he explained.
According to the Waziri of Adamawa, “Our criminal justice system is notoriously slow and as a result, terrorists and bandits are thus encouraged to feel that crime pays.”
The former Vice President also expressed “embarrassment at how armed criminal groups cross through our borders to carry out terrorist activities in Nigeria.”
Atiku added that condemnation of terrorist attacks by the government is not enough, saying that what is needed are prompt and proactive measures to forestall further attacks and loss of innocent lives.
He noted that as long as the terrorists and bandits are operating successfully without consequences, they will continue to attack innocent people again and again.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum on Monday said it is standing with the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara.
The Forum led by Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, disclosed this after its meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.

Tinubu imposed the state of emergency to tackle the political crisis in the state.

PDP govs reject Atiku-led opposition coalition

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum, have distanced itself from a coalition of opposition politicians.
The Forum under the leadership of the Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, said it won’t join any alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
It disclosed this during a meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Monday.
The Forum also heightened the crisis over the authentic national secretary of the party by backing the Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo, as Acting National Secretary.
Recall that PDP’s former presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar had announced the birth of an opposition alliance.
The coalition is believed to include former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi and ex-Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, among other politicians.
Atiku had said the coalition is aimed at removing President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The announcement of the coalition came after El-Rufai defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
El-Rufai had accused the APC of lack of internal democracy since Tinubu assumed power.
However, former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewale Adebayo, had said Atiku and Obi were in talks to join the SDP.
He said if Atiku, Obi and other prominent politicians willing to join SDP can stick to the party’s culture, they would defeat and retire Tinubu and the APC.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Buba Galadima said El-Rufai was Atiku’s placeholder in the SDP should the PDP deny him its presidential ticket.
