The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has accused the United Kingdom of refusing to extradite a former minister of petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Magu while receiving the “Institution of the Decade” award for the EFCC on Tuesday, January 21, said the government of the United Kingdom despite all attempts by the Federal Government to bring Diezani back to face trial for alleged money laundering in Nigeria has been futile.

The ceremony organised by Thisday Newspaper to mark its 25th anniversary at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The EFCC boss noted that the commission already had enough evidence at its disposal to prosecute the former minister who has been in the UK since 2015.

He said the looted funs traced to Diezani and many of her accomplices could be used to keep the nation’s economy rolling once recovered.

Magu said Alison-Madueke’s prosecution over money laundering charges has dragged for more than four years with no result.

It was gathered that the former minister was able to secure a Dominican diplomatic passport to protect her from being arrested over corrupt allegations levelled against her.

Diezani was said to have been personally handed a Dominican diplomatic passport by the prime minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit in London.
