Tottenham Hotspur have won this year’s Europa League, defeating Manchester United 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Both clubs entered the game hoping to win the trophy, which would have been a significant boost in an otherwise disastrous season.

Winning the Europa League would also guarantee a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Spurs scored the match’s sole goal in Bilbao.

Brennan Johnson took advantage of a loose ball in the area to beat Andre Onana in the first half.

Despite this, Ruben Amorim’s team rallied after halftime. Bruno Fernandes’ floating free kick hit Leny Yoro’s outstretched foot, but a leaping Guglielmo Vicario kept him out.

Micky van de Ven then rescued Spurs’ goalkeeper by acrobatically clearing Rasmus Hojlund’s header off the line.

However, Spurs held on to win the season’s championship.
