The Presidency has debunked claims made by Archbishop of Matthew Kukah regarding President Bola Tinubu’s participation in peace accords during the 2023 election process.

Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his X handle @aonanuga1956, asserted that contrary to Kukah’s allegations, President Tinubu did sign two crucial peace accords.

According to Onanuga, the first peace accord was signed on September 29, 2022, noting that this agreement committed all candidates to ensure a free and credible election in Nigeria. He explained that while Tinubu himself was not present for this signing, he was represented by his running mate and current Vice President, Kashim Shettima.

The second and perhaps more contentious peace accord was signed on February 23, 2023, just days before the general election.

This agreement, the presidential media aide noted, specifically required candidates to accept the outcome of the election. Onanuga emphasized that President Tinubu personally signed this accord.

“The first accord, committing the candidates to a free and credible election in the country, was signed on September 29, 2022. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu.

“The second agreement, signed on February 23, 2023, was for the candidates to accept the election outcome.Tinubu signed.”
