Tanker explosion: Niger incident shows lesson not learnt – Shehu Sani
Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani said Saturday’s tanker explosion in Niger State that claimed no fewer than 77 lives showed no lessons were learnt from previous occurrences.
The horrific incident at Dikko Junction, Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, occurred when a truck loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control and eventually caught fire, resulting in the loss of over 73 lives and numerous others being injured, along with the destruction of several shops and property.
In an X post on Sunday, Sani said the accident could have been prevented if a similar incident in Jigawa on October 15, 2024, was studied.
Recall that a fuel tanker exploded in Majiya, Jigawa State, killing 209 people and injuring 124 others.
Sani said, “Few minutes after we passed the Dikko junction in Niger State, on our way to Minna for a wedding, a tanker exploded and over 80 people were roasted to death.
“A horrible tragedy. Lessons were never learned from the one that happened in Jigawa.
“A tanker of petrol is not a tanker of water.
“May their souls rest in peace.”
