Stop chasing shadows, APC mocks Atiku’s men

Published

on

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council on Sunday night accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, and his campaign team of chasing shadows.

The statement of the APC campaign team was a response to the scathing allegation raised by Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu.

Shaibu had accused the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu, of having ‘many things’ to hide by evading debates, non-partisan town hall meetings and live interviews.”

He went further to claim Tinubu built his entire life and persona on falsehood hence his decision to continue to run all over the place

The APC, however, hit back in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Director of Media and Publicity for Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga stated that Atiku’s camp is jittery and has resorted to clout chasing when it is becoming clear that Tinubu would coast home to victory at the February 25 poll.

The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to a statement by one Phrank Shaibu, an Atiku Abubakar special media assistant, whose specialty appears to be muckraking.

“In another puerile move, Shuaibu challenged our candidate to give his full name and went on a journey of fantasy about his early education and parentage, matters already thrown into the dustbin decades ago.

“We were not surprised that the desperate Atiku camp, faced with mounting setbacks in its campaign, will engage in another round of mudslinging after it failed to make any capital over its amplified allegation of drug dealing against our candidate.

“This latest allegation, we must say is another attempt at shadowboxing. Having failed to pull the wool over the eyes of Nigerians on its 16 years of infamous, criminal sabotage of our fatherland, in which Atiku as the overseer of the privatisation of our national assets programme and shortchanged our people.

“The PDP has just woken up to the reality that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s sure victory in the presidential election of 25 February, 2023 is inevitable hence this desperate resort to character assassination and innuendoes.”

Mikel Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said they cannot “cry about” the 1-1 draw at Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.

Arteta, however, insisted his team deserved to take all three points.

Raul Jimenez opened the scoring for the hosts in the first half before William Saliba levelled in the 52nd minute.

Speaking after the match, Arteta said: “Gutted that we didn’t win it. We fully deserved to win it. That’s the quality of the opposition, so you cannot cry about it. We generated all the chances but it’s so difficult to attack.”

Arsenal had 70 per cent possession and VAR denied Bukayo Saka what would have been a late winner.

EPL: ‘We started badly’ – Amorim on Man Utd’s 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest

Published

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted his team did not do enough to beat Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Red Devils suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time under Amorim, losing 3-2 to Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

Goals from Nikola Milenkovic, Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood moved Forest up to fifth place, with Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes getting on the scoresheet for United.

The result leaves United in 13th place, 10 points above relegation places.

Amorim, speaking with BBC Sport, said: “Tough game. We started really bad. The first play we suffered a goal and then it’s hard to try to fight. We then controlled the game and had a lot of situations.

“We improved the movement in the last third. We managed to draw the game and then, at halftime, we were ready to go for the win and then started really bad. Two goals. Then we tried a lot of things with not a lot of quality.

“We didn’t have many situations to score. Tough game in a tough moment but we have to continue the job.”
