Seven APC Presidential Aspirants Reject Governors’ Shortlist
Their position was contained in a letter on Tuesday to President Muhammadu Buhari, hours to the APC primaries
Seven of the presidential aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have dissociated themselves from the shortlist presented to President Muhammadu Buhari by Northern Governors to choose a consensus candidate from.
Their position was contained in a letter on Tuesday to President Muhammadu Buhari, hours to the APC primaries.
In the statement by one of them and a former Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the aggrieved aspirants said the position of the Governors was meant to sideline others, especially from the South East and South South.
The statement said: “In the past few hours we have been bombarded with calls and messages from my supporters and concerned Nigerians on a list of five Presidential aspirants submitted to President Buhari to choose from.
“As long as we are concerned no list has been submitted to Mr. President, the move by the Governors is considered a joke taken to the extreme with the aim of playing with the intellect of Nigerians particularly us from the South-East.
“Mr. President’s directive is very simple, that all Presidential aspirants including those from the North should meet and harmonise inorder to produce a single candidate. As it stands we have not been consulted or attended a meeting where it was agreed that such names be sent to Mr. President.
“In the so-called list out of the five names only one was selected from the South-East and we are talking about fairness and justice to the South. What the Governors have done is a mere picnic in the park. These are the same Governors talking about Equity, justice and fairness yet in a clandestine manner purportedly sidelined the South East.
“In the absence of any harmonised agreement no list has been submitted to Mr. President, what they have done is just nothing but a charade which is bound to fail.
“We also have it on good authority that the majority of these Governors have been promised and also given various forms of gratifications in order to thwart the process in favour of one aspirant and such grand plot will fail woefully.
“Moreso, the party led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu remains the official organ of the party through which decisions taken by stakeholders in the party will be communicated and acted upon, in the absence of that any other move remains null and void.
“We urge all well meaning Nigerians to disregard such information, as we remain in the race hence no consensus agreement has been reached amongst all contestants.”
Other aspirants who signed the letter apart from Onu are the Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade; former Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha; and businessman, Tein Jack-Rich.

“We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty US Dollar.
“If not, they will face 100 per cent Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful US Economy,” Trump said.

Breaking: Another Explosion Rocks Niger, scores fare dead
@ Villagers scramble for safety
@ Four bodies recover from the scene
With barely one week after fuel Tanker explosion rocked Dikko, Gurara local government area of Niger state killing over 100 people and injured 69 others, another explosion has rocked the state, this time around at a mining site at Sabon Pegi in Mashegun local government area of the state.
The explosion was said to have occurred in the early hour of Sunday when the miner had just resumed for the day work at the mining site.
The explosion was said to have sent shockwave to the entire Sabon Pegi and its neighboring villages, including New Bussa, headquarters of Borgu local government area of the state, leaving the people scrambling for safety.
A source close to the community who confirmed the incident to Daily Sun on phone, said although the cause of the explosion could not be immediately ascertained, poor handling of explosive devices being used by the mining company in the area for mining activities must have been responsible for the blast.
According to him, four bodies have been recovered from the scene of the blast but the numbers of casualties could be more than that “because the explosion occurred when the miners were just resuming work in the morning.
“Everybody is afraid to go close to the area for now because nobody knows what will happen next, especially when we didn’t know what must have triggered the explosion that shook the entire village, including New Bussa.
“People were just running into the bush because initially they thought the explosion was from the hydro electricity dam in the area because it was very loud. It was later that we were told that the explosion occurred at a mining site at Sabon Pegi in Mashegun local government area which shares border with some villages in Borgu local government area”, he added.
He however ruled out any possible link to terrorist attack in the area, stressing that “no, the explosion occurred at a mining site, the mining company usually use explosives devices for mining activities, so it must be poor handling of these devices that must have resulted in the explosion.
“Although there is history of terrorists activities in the area here but this very incident has nothing to do with terrorists. There is serious mining activities going on in that particular village, and it has been long”, he said.
Meanwhile there is no statement yet from either the state government or the state police command on the latest incident as at the time of filing this report.
