Rivers State Commissioner for Youth Development, Chisom Kenneth Gbali, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect.
In a resignation letter made public on Thursday, Gbali, who hails from Ward 1, Ayama Ndoki in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state, announced his exit from the party amid growing tensions within Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political structure.
Gbali, a vocal supporter of Governor Fubara and one of the most prominent youth faces in the state executive council, joined the APC following the governor’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said: “This decision was reached after careful reflection and personal consideration. I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the leadership and members of the party for opportunities, relationships, and experiences I gained during my time as a member of the party.
“I remain committed to the continued service and development of our people and state, and I wish the party well in its future endeavors.
“I kindly request that my name be removed from the party’s membership records and registers accordingly.”
The commissioner’s sudden exit was viewed by political analysts, as a significant blow to the governor’s camp, raising fears of a possible wave of resignations of Fubara’s supporters and aides.
Though the letter did not specify detailed reasons for his departure, political observers linked the move to reported internal disagreements over party structure, candidate selection, and the integration of Fubara’s loyalists into the APC.
