Refinery: Never say never – Presidency mocks Obasanjo over old comment against Tinubu
Following the commencement of the Port Harcourt refinery’s operation, the presidency has called out former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his old comment expressing pessimism that President Bola Tinubu cannot fix the facility.
Gatekeeper recalls that the former president had in September 2023, said he tried to get Nigeria’s oil refineries working but failed, stating that Tinubu’s plan to do the same would be unsuccessful.
However, contrary to his claim, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company on Tuesday announced that the facility has commenced operations.
NNPCL also confirmed that the refinery began the truckout of petroleum products hours after the plant commenced crude oil production.
Sharing Obasanjo’s old comment, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga said “Only Almighty God possesses the divine authority to declare what is achievable or not”.
In a post on his official X handle, the presidential aide wrote, “Never say Never; Today, the Port Harcourt refinery begins its operations, producing petroleum products against all odds and scepticism.
“This serves as a profound reminder to all of humanity, including our former leaders, that perseverance, determination, and faith in our capabilities can overcome even the harshest challenges.
“Let us learn from this moment that limits are often set by our own doubts, and with collective effort and unwavering resolve, we can bring about the change we seek”.
