France head coach, Didier Deschamps, has explained why they lost the 2022 World Cup final to Argentina on Sunday.
The defending champions were dominated by Lionel Messi and co for most of the game and went two goals down after Messi converted from the penalty spot before Angel Di Maria made it 2-0.
However, Kylian Mbappe netted a stunning brace and took the match to extra time.
Messi and Mbappe scored again within 30 minutes to take the game to penalties.
Emiliano Martinez saved twice from Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni to ensure Argentina won their third title.
“We didn’t turn up for different reasons (in the first 60 minutes). We have had to face difficult things in the last 4 days. Illness and then things collectively too,” Deschamps told beIN Sports.
