The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 55-year-old man, Ademola Joshua, in connection with an alleged case of incest and sexual abuse involving a minor.

The command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this on Monday, stating that the suspect is accused of sexually abusing and impregnating a 15-year-old girl.

Jimoh explained that the case was reported to the police on January 4 by an individual identified as Adewale from Ilara-Mokin, who alleged that the suspect had been engaging in unlawful sexual acts with his sister’s daughter.

According to him, the alleged abuse came to light during investigations into the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s pregnancy.

“Following the receipt of this disturbing complaint, the matter was immediately transferred to the Gender-Based Violence, GBV, Unit of the command for a discreet and comprehensive investigation,” Jimoh said.

He added that the suspect is currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.

The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of women and children, stressing that offenders involved in sexual and gender-based violence would be prosecuted without compromise.

Jimoh noted that the arrest reflects the reform-driven policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which places strong emphasis on gender-sensitive policing, accountability, and improved responses to sexual and gender-based violence across the country.

He assured residents that the Ondo State Police Command remains committed to translating the IGP’s vision into concrete actions that promote public confidence and enhance community safety.

Jimoh also commended members of the public for promptly reporting the incident and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to law enforcement agencies.
