Families and friends gathered today in Lagos to bid the late first civilian governor, Lateef Kayode Jakande a final farewell.

The most respected politician died on Thursday as the age of 91.

A funeral prayer was observed for him at his residence in the Ilupeju area of Lagos.

Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos state and Ibikunle Amosun, former governor of Ogun state, were among those present at the funeral.

Late Lateef Jakande falls to the last set of late Sage, Obafemi Awolowo followers. Jakande was known and respected for being an upright politician and deep humility.

Lateef Kayode Jakande was a Nigerian journalist who became governor of Lagos State in Nigeria from 1979 to 1983, and later Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime.
