The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP led by its National Chairman and other party leaders are leading a protest to the supreme court over its verdict on the Imo governorship election.
The party’s Vice Presidential Candidate in the last general, Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, senate minority leader, also are present in the protest.
The march took off from the PDP’s Legacy House in Maitama, Abuja amid tight security.
The protesters, who are in hundreds, held placards which read: “Save Judiciary”, “Presidency and Judiciary Murder Democracy” and “We say no to Supreme Court judgement in Imo” among others.
Security agents have cordoned off the road leading to the supreme court.
Last week, the court sacked Emeka Ihedioha, PDP governorship candidate, and declared Hope Uzodinma, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the last governorship election, as the duly elected governor of Imo state.
In March 2019, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ihedioha as the winner of the election, but Uzodinma challenged the decision up to the supreme court.
