Oyebanji Punishing Citizens with Increasing Hardships Amidst Road Crisis – Ekiti PDP
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, led by architect Sodiq Obanoyen, emphasizes how disturbed she is by the All Progressive Congress’s (APC) seeming apathy to the terrible state of Ekiti’s roads. We argue that the current administration’s delay amounts to penalizing the people of Ekiti with rising hardships because of the terrible condition of the roads. The situation on the Ado-Ilawe roads, where both the government and responsible contractors appear to be carelessly putting road users at unnecessary inconvenience and risk, serves as an example of our worries.
This was made known in a statement signed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) CTC Publicity Secretary, Ekiti State, Aare Amerijoye DOT.B., on Tuesday.
The statement read thus:
“The ongoing plight of the road users has garnered the sympathy of the PDP in Ekiti State, particularly for residents of Irewolede Estate, Aba Iya Medi, and those living along the Delight area, Ilawe Road. These citizens have been voicing their complaints about the poor condition of the roads that connect their areas. These individuals nostalgically recall the proactive measures that previous PDP leadership would have taken under similar circumstances, expressing that the current conditions are worse than ever and that accidents are becoming increasingly commonplace since the contractors began their work.
“Our concerns about all the roads in Ekiti which are in deplorable conditions, extend beyond safety, to the daily wear and tear on the vehicles of Ekiti people due to the poor road conditions. Residents in Ekiti express their initial optimism when they saw contractors and government officials moving around on these roads, hoping for improvements. However, the situation of Ekiti State roads has only worsened, forcing drivers to replace tyres and even entire car parts as a result of frequent road damage. We are suggesting to the governor on behalf of the Ekiti people to take urgent action to rectify the situation.
“Finally, the PDP in Ekiti State is urgently calling on the government to prioritise the essential needs of the people over political maneuvering. We urge the governor to focus on matters of fundamental importance that directly affect the lives of Ekiti’s people, rather than engaging in populist tactics that may temporarily entertain but fail to serve as a substantial indicator of good governance. Ekiti PDP promise to bring about the much-needed development to Ekiti and her people, akin to nurturing soil for growth, when we regain leadership in the State, and we offer our empathy and sympathy to those impacted by the current unsatisfactory leadership in the State.”
