Osimhen Moved to Tears as Galatasaray Fans Honour Late Mother
Victor Osimhen was moved to tears as Galatasaray fans lifted a banner honouring his late mother on Tuesday night.
The enormous tifo banner was unfurled just before the club’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 first-leg match versus Liverpool at the Turkish champions’ RAMS Park.
The banner depicts Osimhen, in a Galatasaray jersey, holding his younger self in what looks like the neighbourhood he grew up in, with the figure of his mother looking on with a smile.
A footnote banner that reads “we are family and family is everything” was earlier unveiled by the fans during warm-ups, and Osimhen posed for a picture with it.
An emotional Osimhen was pictured taking off his mask to wipe tears from his eyes in response to the fans’ tribute. He also approached the fans to thank them for the wonderful gesture.
Osimhen, the last of seven children, lost his mother at a young age but credited her for his resilience and warrior persona.
The 27-year-old has led Galatasaray in the UCL this season, scoring seven key goals that sent the Turkish champions to the round of 16.
He also assisted in the seventh minute of the first leg against Liverpool, which they won 1-0.
