First Nigerian Architect and planner, Late Pa Sir. Arc. Michael Olutusen Onafowokan has been described as a major Contributor towards nation-building who laboured tirelessly with great tact, intelligence, boldness and confidence.
Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Arc. David Majekodunmi said this during the NIA Founders day and Memorial Lecture of Late Pa. Michael Olutusen Onafowokan, with the theme ” Architecture Legacy: The Challenges of Sustainability“.
During his speech, Majekodunmi said Sustainable Architecture can be used to reduce the negative impact on the built environment noting that Sustainability is not only related to environment issues but also to Social equity and economic development.
“Sustainable Architecture is the use of design strategies to reduce the negative impact on the built environment. However, Sustainability is not only related to environment issues. It is also to social equity and economic development. The Main Challenge of Sustainability is still strong correlated with the preservation of a communal environment for future generations.”
While appreciating the Ikorodu branch of the Institute and Host of the maiden edition of the memorial lecture in honour of Pa. Onafowokan, He described the pioneer of the NIA as One who stood among the founding fathers of Nigeria and was instrumental in Laying the foundation for the nation destined to be the leader of Africa and a model black race.
