‘Not a friendly affair’ — Omeruo warns ahead Super Eagles vs Black Stars

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has said their upcoming clash with eternal rivals Ghana will not be treated like a friendly.

The two teams have a long history of rivalry between them which date back to decades.

The West African giants will battle for supremacy once again at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, Morocco, on Friday.

Omeruo reckoned it’s not always a friendly affair when both teams meet.

The Kasimpasa, Turkey defender also reflected on the team’s preparation for the game against Otto Addo’s men.

“Preparation has been great, it’s good to be back in camp again after the AFCON. I’m happy to see the likes of Ndidi, who was missing and the other boys again,” Omeruo told the Super Eagles media.

It’s been good, we are training and working hard, working on our tactics to win this game. You know it’s usually not a friendly game against Ghana. We are ready and will go all out to win the game.”

The game will kick-off at 5 pm Nigeria time.

Super Eagles vs Zimbabwe: Akwa Ibom govt buys match tickets for fans

The Akwa Ibom State Government has purchased 30,000 tickets for football fans and supporters ahead of Super Eagles 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe.

The move is mobilise support for the Super Eagles in the game.

Eric Chelle’s side will host the Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles have played all their previous home games in the qualifiers at the ground.

The three-time African champions will be looking to record their second win in the qualifiers following last Friday’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali.

The Group C encounter will kick-off at 5pm.

2026 WCQ: We want to beat Zimbabwe – Super Eagles captain Troost-Ekong

Captain William Troost-Ekong says the Super Eagles are fully focused on their clash with the Warriors of Zimbabwe.

Nigeria will face Michael Nees’ side in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday six encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles revitalised their qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Rwanda last Friday.

Troost-Ekong stated that the players have put that win behind them and are fully prepared for the challenge against Zimbabwe.

“The win over Rwanda is in the past. We are now 100% focused on the game against Zimbabwe tomorrow. Against a motivated Zimbabwean side, we just want to rise to the occasion and win,” the centre-back told a press conference.

“We have experienced and ambitious players in the team, but we also spoke about the significance of playing at the World Cup. Our targets are very clear.”

Head coach Eric Chelle took charge of the Super Eagles for the first time against Rwanda.

Troost-Ekong noted that the players are adapting to the coach’s tactics.

“We are working on adjusting to the coach’s tactics. We have enough quality, and we saw that against Rwanda. It’s a process, and we just need to deliver against Zimbabwe tomorrow,” he added.

2026 WCQ: Super Eagles players want Benin to beat South Africa – Rohr

The head coach of the Benin Republic’s senior national team, Gernot Rohr, has suggested that the Super Eagles players want his team to beat South Africa when both sides clash in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Rohr’s men will take on South Africa in the 2026 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday evening in Abidjan.

Benin head to the game following a 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe in their last game.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Rohr who was coach of the Super Eagles for over five years, said as quoted by OwnGoalNigeria:

“The group is very close with South Africa two points ahead of us and three more than Rwanda. You have Nigeria who have gotten their first win also behind us.

“I really think we have to beat South Africa because every team in the group has to beat the other team.

“Nigeria will definitely go all out to win against Zimbabwe. My former players will want me to beat South Africa and it’s the same for all teams playing on Tuesday in the group.”

South Africa are on top of Group C with two points ahead of Benin, who are in second position.

Nigeria, meanwhile, are in fourth position with a point behind third-placed Rwanda.
