Messi beats Mbappe, Benzema to Best FIFA Men’s Player award
Argentina captain, Lionel Messi won this year’s Best FIFA Men’s Player award at a ceremony in Paris on Monday.
Messi beat Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid captain, Karim Benzema, to the prize.
The 35-year-old won the 2022 World Cup with his country in December, finally getting to lift the only major honour he hasn’t won in his career.
It’s amazing. It was a tremendous year and it is an honour for me to be here tonight and win this award,” Messi said.
It was Messi’s second FIFA The Best title, with his first coming in 2019.
He has also won a record seven Ballon d’Or awards.

EPL: Amorim blasts people around Rashford making decisions
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has criticised those making decisions within Marcus Rashford’s camp.
This follows Rashford’s public comments regarding his future at the Premier League club.
The 27-year-old has been dropped by Amorim from the last three match-day squads.
In an interview with Henry Winter, Rashford admitted he is “ready for a new challenge.”
Amorim has now claimed it is not just the player that is at fault for the comments.
“I understand that these players have a lot of people around them, making choices that are not the first idea from the player,” Amorim told Sky Sports.
“I am always here to help Marcus as another player. I have to do what I have to do. They chose to do the interview as it is not just Marcus. I understand that.”
