Lagos APC ward members declare support for Jandor

Some members of the All Progressives Congress in wards D and E, in the Badagry West Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, have declared support for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, aka Jandor, in the forthcoming election in the state.
Speaking during the event in the Ikeja area of the state, one of the decampees who was a former APC Vice Chairman, Ward C, Badagry West LCDA, Michael Wusu, said the lack of progress in the division propelled him and other decampees to join the PDP.
He said, “I have thought about the fact that there has been lack of progress in this division; I was at home when my younger brother visited and asked if this was how things in the division would continue and I said no.
“God will take you (Jandor) to that position; now that we have joined the PDP, I know that the news would have spread across Badagry West but we changed to PDP because Lagos is not for one person. When the time to vote comes, both at the federal and state levels, they will know it is for PDP.”
Another decampee, John Kuwhede, said efforts he alongside other members expended in the service of the APC yielded nothing positive in their communities.
“If you serve someone for a time without any profit, it is wise to back out. Our lives and communities have remained the same since we have been serving the APC,” Kuwhede said.
Reacting to the development, Adediran, while appreciating the new members for reposing confidence in his aspiration to lead the state, pledged that their progress in the party won’t be determined by the fact that they just joined.
He said, “The PDP that you all just joined is not like where you were coming from which requires that if you just joined, you would be told to meet an elder for endorsement despite the fact that the elder also gets orders from the top to handpick someone.
“The PDP is not like that. If the PDP is like that, I will not join the party in January and get the PDP governorship ticket in May which is not possible in the APC. But because the PDP is a true democratic party, once you join like you all just did today, you have become part of the party and no one would be telling you that because you are new, you still need to queue and wait for your turn.
“Once the PDP becomes in charge of governance in the state in May 2023, we are going to sit and discuss with those who assisted in Badagry West and give some people appointments without saying they just joined the PDP,” he added.

Police arrest Rivers pastor over alleged homosexual activities

Detectives from the Octopus, C4i, Strike Force Unit of the Rivers State Police Command are investigating the General Overseer of a new-generation church in the Eagleland area of Diobu, Port Harcourt, over allegations of homosexuality.
The pastor, popularly known as Elijah, got into trouble after videos of him engaging in homosexual acts were leaked to the police by a man he allegedly made sexual advances toward.
A source in the area revealed that the whistleblower pretended to be the pastor’s lover in order to gather evidence.
He allegedly recorded a video of the cleric while he was engaged in romantic activities with another man and soliciting sex.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Octopus Strike Force tracked the suspect to a relaxation spot in Port Harcourt, where he was arrested and taken into custody for questioning.
An insider disclosed that the General Overseer has reportedly confessed to multiple homosexual encounters involving both adult males and minors, within and outside Port Harcourt.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that an investigation is ongoing.

OpenAI finalizes $40 billion funding at $300 billion value

OpenAI on Monday said it raised $40 billion in a new funding round that valued the ChatGPT maker at $300 billion, the biggest capital-raising session ever for a startup.
The infusion of cash comes in a partnership with Japanese investment giant SoftBank Group and “enables us to push the frontiers of AI research even further,” the San Francisco-based company said in a post on its website.
“Their support will help us continue building AI systems that drive scientific discovery, enable personalized education, enhance human creativity, and pave the way toward AGI (artificial general intelligence) that benefits all of humanity,” the company said.
AGI refers to a computing platform with human-level intelligence.
SoftBank said in a release that it is on a mission to realize Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) that surpasses human intelligence, and that OpenAI is the partner closest to achieving that goal.
The advancement of OpenAI’s AI models is key to achieving AGI and ASI, and massive computing power is essential,” SoftBank stated in its rationale for the latest investment in the company.
SoftBank is to pump $10 billion into OpenAI to start, and $30 billion more by the end of this year pending certain conditions.
OpenAI plans to scale its infrastructure and “deliver increasingly powerful tools for the 500 million people who use ChatGPT every week.”
