The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Yekini Nabena, has declared that he has taken over the office of Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu on acting capacity.
Issa-Onilu was the National Publicity Secretary of the ruling party until a court order restraining him from parading himself as the APC Spokesman.
A Sokoto High Court last week had restrained the party from appointing or electing Issa-Onilu or any member into its top positions except through a national convention.
Nabena will take over as APC Acting National Publicity Secretary pending when the court order will be vacated
Issa-Onilu’s appointment was ratified at the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, in Abuja in October 2018 after Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi resigned from the position and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In a statement signed on Sunday, March 22 in Abuja, the APC Deputy Spokesman said he would act as the party’s Spokesman pending the time the issue will be sorted in court.
“APC is a law-abiding party and as Leaders of the party, we must be seen doing the right thing at all time, including respecting the order of the court.
“In lieu of this, Mallam Onilu has begun the process of vacating the order of the Sokoto High Court restraining him but pending the time this will be done I will act in his position.
“Unlike the former ruling party, APC has high regard for the judiciary and we must be seen at all time practice what we preach,’’ Nabena stated.
He called for understanding among APC supporters, even as he urged the media and other Stakeholders to cooperate with him in carrying out his assignment.
He assured media representatives of prompt responses to enquiries and clarifications while creating mutual understanding between the public and the governing party.
