How to stop budget padding – Shehu Sani reveals
Civil rights activist and former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani has suggested one method for preventing budget padding.
In a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, the ex-senator stated that the only way to prevent budget padding is to pass legislation prohibiting lawmakers from tampering with budgets given by the Federal Government’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
He, however, said he wondered if lawmakers would be ready to adopt rules to curb such activities, or that such a bill would be permitted to pass.
“But I don’t know who will make that law or how it can even pass the first reading,” he said.
The advice is coming as the meeting of the Appropriations Committee with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Minister of Budget & Economic Planning and Director General, Budget Office of the Federation, is set to be held on Tuesday, 7th January 2025.
