Guardiola Confirms Triple Man City Injury Blow Ahead Of Wolves Clash
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confessed his side have suffered a triple injury blow ahead of their clash with Wolves on Wednesday.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confessed his side have suffered a triple injury blow ahead of their clash with Wolves on Wednesday.
The league leaders looked to have put their Champions League semi-final setback behind them as the club recorded a 5-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday. Next up for City is a midweek trip to Wolves and a game under the lights at Molineux.
Though City will arrive in typically fearsome form, Wolves will be in high spirits themselves after the team’s last-gasp comeback against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. And Guardiola has admitted that he will be missing a key trio of players against Bruno Lage’s side.
“Ruben (Dias), Kyle (Walker) and John (Stones) are out for the end of the season. Next pre-season maybe they will be ready,” the City boss said.
Guardiola added: “We have big problems at the back because we have just three defenders for these three games but we are going to try to do it.”
Ruben Dias was substituted at half-time against Newcastle with a hamstring injury. However, Fernandinho replaced the Portugal international from the bench, with Nathan Ake also suffering from an ankle problem, despite being among the substitutes.
Walker has missed his side’s last four league games through injury, though the England international was risked against Real Madrid in the Champions League last week. It is a move that looks to have backfired as the 31-year-old was substituted and has subsequently been ruled out for the season.
