FIFA will on Saturday announce the venues and stadiums for next year’s Club World Cup in the United States, football’s governing body said on Friday.

The new, expanded 32-club tournament, featuring leading clubs from around the world, will take place from 15 June to 13 July 2025.

Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, will make the announcement in Central Park during the Global Citizen Festival, a music event aimed at defeating poverty.

Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are among the 12 European teams who have qualified for the tournament while Argentina’s River Plate and Boca Juniors and Brazil’s Flamengo are among six South American teams.

FIFA has yet to announce any broadcast partners for the tournament which has faced opposition from the global players’ union FIFPro.

FIFpro and the European Leagues body filed a joint complaint to the European Commission against FIFA over the introduction of the tournament into the international match calendar.

Opponents of the new tournament have said it adds further congestion to an already crowded schedule and increases the workload of players.

The tournament will take place during the same window as the regional national team CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament which will be held mainly on the West Coast.

The Club World Cup games are expected to be held mainly at East Coast venues although US club Seattle Sounders may be given a game at their home venue.

The USA will also co-host the 2026 regular World Cup with Mexico and Canada.

Eric Chelle

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle says it is important for the team to beat the Bafana Bafana of South Africa if they must qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bafana Bafana will host Nigeria in a matchday eight encounter in September.

Hugo Broos’ side lead Group C with 13 points after six matches, six points clear of Super Eagles.

There are four rounds of matches left in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Chelle admitted that the Super Eagles are condemned to win all their remaining matches.

“It’s an obligation we win in South Africa, but the most important match for us right now is Rwanda in Uyo,” Eric Chelle told SCORENigeria

“South Africa are a good side, but for that game we cannot afford to allow them play.

“But first we have to beat Rwanda at home and then we will focus on the game in South Africa.”

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has declared that Marcus Rashford is not one of his current players.

Amorim made this known at his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League game against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

Daily Sun reported that Rashford fell out of favour with Amorim at Manchester United.

The England international eventually left Man United to join Premier League side Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the season.

Rashford has been doing well at Aston Villa so far, scoring a brace in their FA Cup 3-0 win against Preston on Sunday.

2026 WCQ: Nigerians react to Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe

Published

on

Some Nigerian football fans have expressed their displeasure over the national team’s performance against Zimbabwe in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, which ended in a 1-1 draw on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Gatekeeper reports that Victor Osimhen gave Eric Chelle’s side the lead in the 74th minute, but Zimbabwe equalised in the 90th minute, thanks to Tawanda Chirewa’s strike.

The result against the Warriors of Zimbabwe means the Super Eagles remain in fourth place in Group C, behind leaders South Africa, Benin Republic in second place, and Rwanda in third.

After the game, supporters took to their X accounts to share their thoughts on the match.

Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from X:

@gpsych01_joe: “This is on Akpabio, his sins affecting the team on his home soil. Why didn’t they change the venue when we are aware of his atrocities in recent times?”

@MrAlaboRoland: “You guys should remain at home and forget about the 2026 Fútbol Mundial.”

@RENDAN_1: “Shameless team! It has always been hype with little to show for it. #SuperEagles.”

@kgatlii: “Give Zim our 3 points from Lesotho @FIFAcom.”

@BlxckLipPastor: “You were counting yellow cards while Zimbabwe was busy training.”

@Bashir_Mamu: “How are we going to miss out on back-to-back WCs?”

@NNAYELUGO_M: “We aren’t qualifying for the World Cup. Let’s just work on qualifying for AFCON.”
