Ekiti State University ( EKSU) authority has given reasons for the sack of over 1000 staff of the institution which occurred recently.
In an interview with Gatekeeper News on Friday, the spokesman of the institution, Bode Olofinmuagun confirmed that the number initially sacked by the institution was over 1000.
He referred to those sacked as ” some were over-aged and some didn’t have the minimum requirements for the job they were doing”.
According to Olofinmuagun, ” The state government set up a visitation Panel. The state government later received the report of the visitation Panel and thereafter issued a White Paper. It was identified that some staff’s appointments were irregular, some were over-aged and some didn’t have the minimum requirements for the job they were doing”
He maintained that the institution has since reabsorbed some based on the recommendations of the panel set up to access the issue.

” Yes. We have some of them now reabsorbed. The Governing Council set up a committee to look into the appeals of the affected staff. The Council then approved the recommendations of the committee that those recommended be re-absorbed”
On alleged hike of school fees by the institution, the spokesman said he is not aware there is a hike. But some students who spoke with Gatekeeper News said their fees have been increased.
Olofinmuagun said he cannot comment on the monthly wage bill of the institution as it is only the VC or Bursar who can do that. He also does not know the state government’s subvention for the institution. ” Only the VC or the Bursar can supply the figures”.
