In a bid to combat the spread of COVID-19 in Ekiti State, the government has cancelled the customary interdenominational service scheduled for today.

The state usually holds a religious programme on every first working day of the year.

However, this year’s programme which was supposed to take place on Monday, January 4, 2020 (today), has cancelled by the Governor Kayode Fayemi led government.

The cancellation was announced by the state Commissioner for Information, Akin Omole who explained that the development was part of the state’s efforts to curtail the spread of the novel virus.

”Omole again affirmed the governor’s directive that public workers on grade level 12 and below should work from home. He, however, urged citizens to comply with all laid down protocols to protect themselves from contracting the dreaded virus.

”Again the commissioner admonished citizens on the importance of avoiding crowds, keeping rooms well-ventilated, using alcohol-based hand-sanitisers and regular hand washing, adding that the social distancing and face mask-wearing remained mandatory across the state.”
