Ekiti 2022: Oyebanji Unveils A Six-point Agenda
The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the Ekiti state June 18 governorship election, Biodun Oyebanji has unveiled his six points agenda.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the Ekiti state June 18 governorship election, Biodun Oyebanji has unveiled his six points agenda.
At an elaborate ceremony in Ado ekiti, Oyebanji said his manifesto is for a sustainable development of the State.
He described the manifesto as his strategic plan of action designed to focus on critical growth areas the state needs and to deliver the future that the people of the state want.
The six-point development agenda unveiled by Oyebanji include youth development and job creation, human capital development, agriculture and rural development, infrastructure and industrialization, arts, culture and tourism; and governance.
The APC flag bearer, who was joined by his wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji and the deputy governorship candidate, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, also staged a massive roadshow and a long trek from the venue of the manifesto launch in Basiri to Ajilosun for the official inauguration of his campaign office amidst a throng of residents and party members.
Oyebanji, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), said he had a clear vision for a prosperous Ekiti. He called on the electorate in the State to retain APC in power with their votes in order to make the dream of sustaining the state’s development beyond 2022 a reality.

According to him, the ideas espoused in the manifesto resulted from his interactions with various segments of Ekiti citizens at home and abroad, adding that they were carefully designed to keep the state working.
He said: “This is not a politician’s usual promise to a voting public but a pledge from an Ekiti man to his people. This is a promise from me to you that we will build on our achievements as a State and strive for more. Our proposed strategic pillars of action are all interlinked.
“We are ensuring that there is sufficient investment, and attention given to the specific areas we believe have the potential to create opportunities, improve well-being and deliver sustainable growth for everyone; from our elderly; to our youth; our women; our workers at State and local government levels; our small and micro business owners; our investors; our teachers and our lecturers; and of course, our children.
“We have been on a long journey to reclaim our land and restore our values, it is now time to hunker down and sustain all our gains. That is why it is important that we encourage policies that keep the State working in partnership with our people. You will agree, many of our plans require partnerships, funding, community input and all hands on deck, working together for our common goal; of a progressive and productive Ekiti State.
“This roadmap focuses on critical growth areas we need to develop, to ensure we deliver the future we want for Ekiti.”
The manifesto launch was attended by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi; the First Lady, Erelu Bisi Fayemi; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye; federal lawmakers, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi and Hon. Femi Bamisile; members of the State’s House of Assembly, state executive council members, local government chairmen and other party faithful.

Electricity, telecom tariffs increase unconscionable, should be stopped – Shehu Sani
Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has described the planned increase in electricity and telecom tariffs as unconscionable.
The statement comes after the telecoms regulator last week approved the increase in mobile tariffs.
The federal government also recently said that plans were ongoing to increase electricity tariffs “over the next few months.”
However, Sani, who said the government’s plan is unreasonable, insisted that it should be halted.
The ex-lawmaker also expressed his support for the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the scheduled protest against the government’s proposal, calling it a welcome development.
“The planned increase in electricity tariffs in the midst of poor power supply and the proposal to increase telecom tariffs is unconscionable and should be halted. The scheduled labour union protest is a welcome development,” he posted on X.

Trump to cut off funding to South Africa, gives reason
The United States President, Donald Trump, has revealed his decision to cut off all future funding to South Africa, citing poor treatment of “certain classes of people.”
Trump made this known on Sunday in a post on Truth Social, his social media platform.
According to Trump, South Africa was seizing land and mistreating some citizens without concern for the violations of their rights.
“South Africa is confiscating land and treating certain classes of people VERY BADLY.
“I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation of this situation has been completed!” Trump wrote.
Reports suggest that the American leader may be defending White South Africans, some of whom have alleged that the South African policy is unfair to them.

Telecoms tariff hike: Nigerian govt in last-minute move to avert NLC shutdown
There are indications that the federal government will on Monday meet with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to stop the planned Tuesday nationwide protest against the 50 percent telecommunications tariff hike.
A reliable source familiar with the matter, who preferred anonymity, disclosed this on Monday morning, noting that the meeting between the NLC leadership and the federal government is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Monday.
The source said the meeting was a “dialogue on matters of national interest as it affects Nigerian workers.”
According to the source, it will be an inter-ministerial meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), purposely to resolve issues raised by the NLC concerning the federal government’s approved upward adjustment to telecommunications tariffs, which the NLC, its allies, and others are vehemently opposing.
This comes as the NLC is already mobilizing workers for a mass protest tomorrow (February 4) against the 50 percent tariff hike approval.
On Thursday last week, in a letter to affiliate unions and state councils, NLC General Secretary Emma Ugboaja urged them to mobilize other Nigerians to send a serious message to the government.
The planned protest follows the 50 percent telecom tariff approval by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on January 20, 2025.
The approval had sparked widespread rejection among telecom subscribers.
