Yusuf Asamah Kadiri, the Labour Party, LP, governorship running mate in Edo State, on Tuesday, insisted that the party would have won the just-concluded election in Edo State if it was free and fair.

Kadiri maintained that vote-buying during last Saturday’s governorship election derailed LP’s candidate, Olumide Apata from emerging victorious.

Results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, indicated that Akpata came a distant third in the Edo State governorship election.

The election results announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, said Akpata polled 22,763 votes while Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the election after garnering 291,667 votes while Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 247,274 votes.

However, featuring on Arise TV’s programme, the Morning Show, Kadiri said: “In a free and fair atmosphere, we would have won that election. We are still consulting internally on whether we should go to court or not.

“We are the only ones that campaigned all across the local government so we felt their pains. We went to the remotest village and they expressed their pains.

“What turned out on the election day was money playing around, many said they wanted to vote for the Labour Party but changed. There was a path to winning but money raided that path.”

Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has distanced himself from a planned rally in Akwa Ibom State purportedly organised in his support, calling on security agencies to prevent the gathering.
A statement issued on Thursday by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, described the rally as the work of “fifth columnists” attempting to exploit Akpabio’s name for ulterior motives.
“The attention of the office of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has been drawn to a planned rally purported to be in support of the Senate President and organised by an unknown association by name Progressive Peoples’ Resolution (PPR) and led by one Ubong Idemudo, a known controversial character, slated for tomorrow, 4th April 2025,” the statement read.
Akpabio urged his supporters and residents of Akwa Ibom to disregard the rally and continue with their lawful activities, emphasising that he had no knowledge of any such event.
“The planned rally, from information pieced together, is the handiwork of fifth columnists trying to use the name of the Senate President to achieve their devilish goal,” Udom stated.
He further called on the police and other security agencies in the state to ensure the event does not take place, as it has no official approval from the Senate President.

AGI refers to a computing platform with human-level intelligence.

SoftBank said in a release that it is on a mission to realize Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) that surpasses human intelligence, and that OpenAI is the partner closest to achieving that goal.
