Barely a month after the governorship election in Ekiti State, crisis has engulfed the rank and file of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) over the plans to deny some popular aspirants of the party vying for national assembly positions.
Our correspondent learnt that efforts of the party’s cabal to deny Barrister Yemi Ayodele Ayeni the ticket to house of reps in favour of the former rep member from Ire Ekiti, Bimbo Daramola was resisted on Tuesday.
Some youths from the zone told our correspondent that Daramola joined the party barely two weeks to the Governoship election and it is unjust to deny a faithful party leader like Ayodele Ayeni.
Rumour of cash exchanging hands between certain aspirants and the committee members saddled with the responsibility to select candidates filtered to the press.
Busuyi Ojo from Oye ward 1 said the youths and women from the zone are loyal to their leader, Barr Yemi Ayodele Ayeni (YAA). He said they would leave the party because of the injustice meted out to him considering his support to the party form the inception.
Similar event happened in Ekiti Central where Barr. Obafemi Adewale (SAN) was picked as senatorial candidate. The supporters of a leading aspirant, Oluomo Arowolo were breathing hot and cold when the news filtered to them that Obafemi who just joined the party few days to Gubernatorial election is the preferred candidate of Segun Oni and his cabal.
In Ekiti North senatorial district, people alleged that the choice of unpopular Titi Owolabi as the senatorial candidate was based on the unholy relationship between her and one of leaders of the party.
