Wholesale corruption, indiscipline and lack of party ideology have been identified as the major banes of the Nigeria political parties.

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ogboni Fouad Oki gave this submission on Tuesday during the party’s 2022 executive council retreat in Lagos.

According to him, the various political parties that had existed in Nigeria, have failed Nigeria and Nigerians, because they embraced corruption wholesale through party indiscipline, and allowed corruption to reign supreme in the country.

In his view, the consequences of political parties corrupt practices have resulted in the dehumanization of Nigerians, to the extent that the greatest number of Nigerians now live far below the poverty line of $1 per day, despite all the mineral resources endowed on the nation by Divine Providence.

” Party discipline as an instrument of party control is a condition sine qua non for the success of any political party.”

” A political party that has disciplined and well control members will be much more focused and goal-oriented, and therefore, will be able to implement its manifesto which will bring about improvement in the living standard of the citizens, and by extension, good governance and development will be prevalent in the country.”

” it is my submission that urgent and prompt steps must be taken by all the stakeholders in Nigerian politics and administration to check the ugly trends of indiscipline and corruption in political parties in Nigeria in order to prevent the truncation of the democratic process by the military as before.”

In his own submission, Babatunde Ogala, SAN who spoke on conflict management and resolution noted that conflict arises when individuals have varied interests, opinions and thought processes and are just not willing to compromise with each other.

” Nigeria’s political parties, unlike what entails in other jurisdictions, have not really institutionalized efficient frameworks for dealing with conflicts among their rank and file.”

“As demonstrated by the All Progressive Congress , intra-party conflicts are not only threats to democratic consolidation but also to social harmony and stability of the party.” Ogala said

Earlier in his speech, the state chairman of the party, Cornelius Ojelabi stressed that the retreat is needed to position the party ahead of the deserved victory come 2023.
