May D says he was once bigger than Wizkid, Davido
By Seyi Babalola
Nigerian artist May D claims that he was previously on the same level, if not ahead, of music titans Wizkid and Davido during their early careers.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, May D described himself, Wizkid, and Davido as the best three Nigerian artists of their time, claiming that he was once more prominent than the two.
“Then it was Wizkid, David, and I. I was even like bigger. Wetin be ‘Holla at Your Boy’ compared to ‘Soundtrack?’” he said, referencing his hit song.
The musician also maintained his prior claims that Wizkid, a Grammy-winning worldwide sensation, would not have achieved his current level of fame if he had not parted relations with Square Records.
May D rose to prominence after signing with Square Records, the company controlled by P-Square, in 2011. However, his professional path changed when the label announced his departure in August 2012. The musician has linked his disagreement with P-Square to a drop in his career, which he says hampered his ability to remain at the top of the music industry.
