The Presidency has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of being envious of President Bola Tinubu, especially as he failed repeatedly to clinch the position after several attempts.
Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, made the allegation on Sunday, a development that has heightened the political rift between both parties.
Onanuga also alleged that Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the 2023 general election, was proposing untested, hypothetical economic theories which lacked popular appeal.
Onanuga said since Atiku’s defeat in the last election, the former Vice President has shown more interest in undermining Tinubu than in addressing his party’s implosion.
The statement reads: “We suspect he is envious of Tinubu’s position—an office he has unsuccessfully sought six times,” the presidential media aide stated.
