…Says lawmakers having hypertension, urges NWC to carry members along in final list of candidates
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has said that some legislators are the architects of their misfortune in failing to retain their return tickets during the party primaries.
Akpabio blamed them over what he described as the failure of some of them to do their homeworks before purchasing the nomination forms and participating in the primaries.
He made the blame in his remarks as the co-chairman during the official inauguration of the APC Campaign Council for the Ekiti State off-cycle governorship election in Abuja.
The former governor of Akwa-Ibom state however challenged the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to confirm that the ruling party is working together with the members of the National Assembly when it releases the final list of legislators that emerged victorious as party’s candidates in the primaries.
While lamenting the outcome of the primaries, Akpabio told the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) that many of the legislators are still down with hypertension.
According to him; “Now, and in 2027. Congratulations. And for all of us who are here, it is not easy for just a main campaign council to attract the calibre of personalities here.”
“From go to bed, from don’t stay, to everywhere. All of us are here because we are loyal to our party. The party is supreme. I am only pleading with the party that when they bring out their final list, then they need to show that they are carrying all of us along.
“That is not true, man. When the working committee meets, and brings out their final list, outside the committee, or the names of the people contesting the election, some of my people are having hypertension.
“So, they are putting down hypertension. And they show that they are carrying all the National Assembly members along. And for the governors, yes, they say the assembly is not going to be working with you.
“You have the absolute right to choose anybody you want. And then for the President of Nigeria, as one of my treaty with the CFA, he also has the right to make him cute. But when anybody has lost the election on the ground, please don’t expect me, as chairman of the National Assembly, to come and plead with you to put the person.
“It simply means the person has lost. So, I want to congratulate those who won the primaries. And then plead with my colleagues, both in the House of Representatives and the Senate, that the Senate President, as chairman of the National Assembly, is saying that you should have done your homework well before going for the primaries.
“That is what I am saying. So, when the party meets, we shall endorse, and may God Almighty grant us victory in the elections, and grant us victory in justice,” he quipped.
