Anammah Advocates Strong Corporate Governance, Stable Industrial Policies for Nigeria’s Economic Growth
The Board Chair of **Nigerian Breweries Plc**, Juliet Anammah, has stressed the need for strong corporate governance and consistent industrial policies as essential pillars for Nigeria’s long-term economic growth and prosperity. She made the call while delivering the keynote address at the 2026 National Corporate Governance Summit held in Lagos on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
Anammah said Nigeria must adopt industrial policies that enable businesses to move up the value chain by producing more sophisticated, higher-value products. She noted that policy consistency would create the confidence required for long-term private sector investment, strengthen industrial capacity, and position the country to compete more effectively in the global economy.

Using Nigerian Breweries as an example, she explained that the right policy environment could enable the company to expand beyond brewing into the production of materials and components that support industries such as pharmaceuticals and aerospace. According to her, such diversification would increase local value addition, boost exports, and generate much-needed foreign exchange earnings for the country.
She emphasized that industrial policies should transcend political administrations to ensure continuity and sustainable development. “Government must be willing to support these industries with good governance, thereby allowing them to move from the first level of where they are in terms of the types of products they’re producing to a much more complex level of products that make our economic cycle and the engine of the economy much more complex. From there, you can get value-added products that you can export to get foreign exchange,” she said.
Other speakers at the summit also underscored the central role of sound corporate governance in driving Nigeria’s economic transformation. They included Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, represented by the Special Adviser to the President on Economic Affairs, Dr. Tope Fasua; President and Chairman of the Institute of Directors Centre for Corporate Governance, Urum Eke; and Chairman of the National Corporate Governance Summit, Abba Kyari Bukar. They agreed that strengthening governance standards across public and private institutions is critical to achieving Nigeria’s ambition of building a resilient, globally competitive $1 trillion economy.
