Ogun West NNPP Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Atele Nunayon Jeremiah, Resigns — Says “I Need Time to Reflect and Reposition My Vision”
The Ogun West Senatorial District Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Honourable Atele Nunayon Jeremiah, has officially resigned from his position, citing personal reasons and the need to reflect on his next political direction.
In a letter addressed to the NNPP State Chairman, Barrister Femi John Aina, and copied to the Ijofin Ward and Ipokia Local Government Chairmen, Hon. Jeremiah announced that his resignation takes immediate effect.
“I am hereby tendering my resignation as the Ogun West Senatorial District Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), effective immediately,” the letter read in part. “This decision has been made after careful consideration and is driven by personal reasons.”
Jeremiah, who previously served as the Assistant State Organising Secretary and was the Ijofin Ward Councillorship Candidate during the 2021 Local Government Elections, said his resignation was not a retreat from politics but a strategic pause for self-reflection.
“I have decided to be static for now and think through the next move that will better align with my vision and aspirations,” he explained. “Politics requires grassroots connection, and I intend to start afresh from my ward — Ijofin — to build a stronger foundation for the future.”
Hon. Jeremiah expressed his appreciation to the state leadership of the party, particularly Barrister Femi Aina, for the opportunity to serve, noting that his experience in the NNPP has enriched his political understanding and leadership skills.
“I want to express my gratitude to the leadership of the NNPP, especially the State Chairman, Barrister Femi Aina, for his mentorship and support. The experience and knowledge I have gained during my tenure will remain valuable assets in my political journey,” he said.
While Jeremiah did not disclose his next political destination, he hinted that an announcement would be made soon.
“My next political move will be declared soon, starting from my ward, Ijofin. I believe in grassroots politics and meaningful contribution to community development,” he stated confidently.
Party insiders in Ogun West told our correspondent that Hon. Jeremiah’s resignation might signal realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially as political figures across the South-West begin to reassess their affiliations.
Jeremiah, known for his mobilisation strength and grassroots influence in Ipokia Local Government, has been a key figure in NNPP’s structure in Ogun State. His departure, observers believe, could impact the party’s coordination in the senatorial district if not quickly addressed.
As of press time, the Ogun State NNPP leadership had yet to issue an official statement on his resignation.
