Police arrest 70-year-old man for assaulting minors in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, identified as Lawan Sani, of the Bakin Kura area of Bauchi metropolis, for allegedly attempting to rape a 16-year-old teenager.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

Wakil noted that the suspect was apprehended following a distress call received on September 1, 2025.

According to Wakil, operatives attached to the C Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Naziru Pindiga, swiftly moved to the scene and arrested the suspect in Unguwar Sarakuna, where he worked as a watchman.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to previously luring the minor with N500 into the same residence. Investigation further revealed that he had sexually molested two other teenagers using the same tactics,” Wakil stated.

He added that the three victims, during an interview, confirmed the allegations, disclosing that the suspect had assaulted them on more than 15 occasions and usually threatened them against speaking out.

The police spokesperson said both the victims and the suspect had been subjected to medical examination to determine their health condition.
