APC National Chair, Ganduje visits Buhari, says Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai’s coalition can’t unseat Tinubu

Published

Barely 24 hours after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar led  Malam Nasir El-Rufai, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and others on a visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his Kaduna residence, National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stormed Buhari’s house  with other party leaders on Sallah home.
The APC National Chairman while fielding questions from journalists shortly after the Friday night meeting with Buhari reacted to the earlier visit of Atiku and others, describing them as strange-bird fellows who cannot fuse together.
Ganduje said the APC is comfortable and will win not only the presidential election, but more governorship seats in the 2027 elections.
According to him,  “We are here to pay Sallah Homage to the former President and also we took time to explain to him the achievements of our great party as he left it, because we have promised to be briefing him from time to time.
“Concerning the group that came to see him, that is not our business. But, I must tell them that history is about to repeat itself; they have a joint venture which will not work. This is because they are just some kind of particles that cannot come together.
“Well, it’s a game, but we will not reveal our own intrigues and game plan, but I can tell you we are equal to the task.
“The progress President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made is very encouraging and that has made our party much stronger. I can tell you that, though we have 21 APC states now,  but j in can tell you we are eyeing some more states to come to our fold, either the Governors themselves will come or we go into election and we defeat them.
“So, we are comfortable ahead of 2027, but we are not resting on our oars, because it’s politics and we are used to the game,” he said.
Reacting to the insinuations that, President Tinubu is engaged in skewed appointments, the APC National Chairman dismissed the insinuation, saying that, the Party was working on the statistics of appointments done by President Tinubu to clear the air on the allegation.
“W we are coming up with the true figures of the appointments to show Nigerians that Mr President is not engaged in skewed appointments.”
Earlier in his presentation to the former President on the state of the APC, Ganduje said, the Party had introduced a new people centred approach to campaign administration different from the usual practice of inaugurating national campaign governorship councils for states in Abuja , adding that, the campaign councils are inaugurated in the affected states to allow for more and greater participation by Party members and other stakeholders in their respective states.
“This innovation has helped to engage the right people to organise and manage campaigns in their states for effective delivery before and during the election. Your Excellency, as you must be aware, we won governorship elections in Imo, Kogi, Edo and Ondo, but unfortunately lost in Bayelsa State.
“Your Excellency, our focus is now on Anambra and Osun states. And in compliance with the time-table released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Party successfully conducted primary elections in Anambra on April 5th, 2025.”
While assuring the former President that, the APC has been growing from strength to strength, Ganduje said, “Today, we have in our fold the former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Ebonyi state, Edwin Nkwegu, Senator Obinna Ogba, Senator Uche Ekwunife from Anambra state, and thousands of their supporters.
“Others decampees are, former Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko; former Kaduna State governor, Ramalan Yero; former Edo State Deputy Governor, Phillips Shuaibu; two-term Senator representing Edo South and former Clerk of the National Assembly, Senator Matthew Onoghide and Senator Halliru Dauda Jika.
“Your Excellency, in the same vein, the NPP also lost some of its former National Working Committee members to APC, such as Prof. Rufai Alkali, former National Chairman, who led other prominent leaders and members, including Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, former National Organising Secretary; Prof. Bem Angwe, former National Legal Adviser; Dr. Isa Shika, Chairman and the immediate past Secretary, North West; Mikaih Takwat, Kaduna senatorial candidate, and thousands of their supporters to join us. Other notable decampees are Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the Senate and Hon. Yusuf Shittu Galambi, the only NNPP member of the House of Representatives, Gwaram Federal Constituency in Jigawa state. Most recently, Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North also joined us,” he said.
Speaking on the recent stand declared by former President Buhari that he remains a loyal member of the APC, the National Chairman applauded Buhari and assured him of the party’s resolve to continue to associate with him, consult him and seek his wise counsel in running the affairs of the Party.
According to Ganduje, “On this note, I will like to specifically acknowledge and applaud the consistent and continued support of the former President to the Party. Of recent, the former President has publicly maintained and associated himself with the Party by stating in clear and unequivocal terms that he “remains an APC member, and would like to be addressed as such”. This is a clear indication of a committed and true Party member and leader.
“I would therefore like to assure that the Party values Your Excellency and will not only continue to associate with you, but will always consult and seek your wise counsel in running the affairs of the Party. We are indeed happy with the way and manner in which you led the Party to victory during the 2023 General Elections. This will go down in the history of democracy in this country.
“We are also happy with the cordial relationship that exists between you and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is working hard to build on some of your legacies and add value to the lives of Nigerians.
“Therefore, on behalf of the National Working Committee, I would like to most sincerely thank you for granting us this audience, and assure you that we will continue our efforts in initiating policies and programmes that will assist the government in its determination to address the global economic challenges. And we hope that you will always open your doors to us, whenever we knock in search of wise counsel,” Ganduje said.

Rivers High Court disowns ‘judgment’ against emergency rule

Published

Court

The Rivers State Judiciary has disassociated Justice Boma Diepiri and any other judge of the State High Court from any judgment involving the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Sole Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, and others.

In a statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Rivers State, David Ihua Maduenyi, the judiciary described as false an online news report alleging that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara secured a court victory over President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike at the Federal High Court.

The report also said the court has ordered the sole administrator to vacate the Government House.

The statement noted that the report falsely claimed Justice Diepriye presided over the case and ruled that the appointment of a sole administrator to oversee the affairs of a state, following the removal of a democratically elected governor, was illegal, null, and void.

Ihua-Maduenyi clarified that Justice Diepiri is not a judge of the Federal High Court but of the Rivers State High Court and is currently on Easter vacation, which commenced on Monday, April 14, 2025.

He emphasized that the mention of Justice Diepiri’s name in the report was both false and misleading, reflecting what he called the “crass ignorance” of the reporter, since the Federal High Court and the State High Court are distinct institutions.

The Chief Registrar further stated that no judge of the Rivers State High Court had issued any orders relating to the emergency rule in the state.

He expressed concern over the growing trend of bloggers and online reporters sacrificing professionalism for traffic and financial gain.

Ihua-Maduenyi urged members of the public to seek proper clarification from the court or its officials before publishing or sharing court-related information.

We’ll ride any vehicle to unseat Tinubu in 2027 – Atiku

Published

on

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reaffirmed that the coalition of opposition forces he is championing would adopt any platform that ensures good governance in its bid to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Atiku made the declaration on Tuesday during a meeting with a delegation of National Opinion Leaders.

In a video of the meeting which was shared on his X handle (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, he assured that the “coalition train has left the station and would have multiple stops to bring on board Nigerians of all shades.”

His comment came just two days after the PDP Governors’ Forum, at the end of their meeting in Ibadan, distanced themselves from any planned coalition or merger ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku had in March announced the formation of a coalition of opposition parties to challenge President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

At the announcement, he was flanked by Dr Yunusa Tanko, who represented Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, who recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Following Atiku’s recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna alongside other coalition members, expectations were high that the PDP governors’ meeting in Ibadan would clarify the party’s stance on the alliance.

However, after the meeting, which began on Sunday and ended Monday, and was attended by acting PDP National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum and other party leaders, the governors disassociated themselves from any coalition or merger discussions.

They nonetheless expressed readiness to welcome any individual, group or party willing to join the PDP to “wrest power and enthrone good leadership in 2027.”

While addressing the youth-dominated delegation of National Opinion Leaders, Atiku urged them to remain focused and not be swayed by short-term inducements.

“Don’t be disrupted by people giving you pennies or kobos here and there, and nairas here and there, and then abandon your future, and the future of your children,” he said.

“Now, because of that, that’s why a number of us leaders from the parties I have mentioned—APC, PDP, Labour, and others—have come together to say we are going to have what I call in Hausa Sabuwar tafiya, which in English means a new path, a new pathway to a new Nigeria.”

“And we have been meeting, and by the grace of God, very soon we will announce, and we hope and we appeal to you all to be part of this movement.”

The former vice president said the primary objective of the coalition was to ensure good governance.

“Whatever vehicle that will give us good governance in the future of our children and grandchildren, that is the vehicle we are going to ride on,” he declared.

He concluded by urging the delegation to start planning and mobilising support.

“Get to planning and working together and getting as many Nigerians as possible to get converted to this new pathway,” he said.

Court Overturns Lagos Assembly Speaker’s Removal

Published

Obasa

The Lagos State High Court has invalidated the recent leadership change in the Lagos House of Assembly, declaring the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker unlawful.

In a landmark ruling delivered in Ikeja on Wednesday, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro ruled that the January 13, 2025 proceedings that led to Obasa’s removal did not follow constitutional requirements.

The court specifically found that the actions of the majority lawmakers, including Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda who had assumed the Speaker position, were conducted without proper legal foundation.

Justice Pinheiro’s judgment not only reinstated Obasa to his position as Speaker but also nullified all resolutions and decisions that emerged from the controversial January 13 sitting.

Additionally, the court awarded damages of ₦500,000 to Obasa.

The ruling effectively restores the previous leadership structure of the Lagos State House of Assembly, ending a period of constitutional uncertainty in the state’s legislative body.

Analysts say that the judgment has significant implications for the legislative activities conducted during the period of contested leadership.
