Delta 2023: I Have Not Endorsed Anyone – Okowa
Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State Governor has clarified his stance over reports he might have endorsed a particular candidate as his successor ahead of the 2023 elections.
In a statement, Commissioner of Information, Charles Aniagwu, in Asaba said Ifeanyi Okowa is focused on delivering dividend of democracy to the people of the state.
He noted that he had not endorsed anybody as his successor while stating that some aspirants are using his name to gain traction for their campaigns.
The statement reads, “everybody knows that the governor has recorded a number of achievements, and it is believed and rightly so that any direction he shakes his body will have a whole lot of advantage because he has been able to add a whole lot of values to the promises he made.
Fayemi Clears Air On APC National Convention Consensus Candidates
“If in that light because they believe the name of the governor is capable of giving them an advantage, you can’t blame them, and we are not going to fight them for using the name of the governor because they are trying to associate themselves with what is good.
“At the end of the day, we are going to have one governorship candidate in the PDP. The governor’s pedigree is quite high and everybody wants to have that covering.
“If you go and meet him to say you want to run, you are being courteous. Naturally, he will not ask you to stop because it is assumed that you have accessed and you have the capacity to run.
“And if you believe that because he did not ask you to stop, that it is an endorsement, there is nothing wrong with it.
“So the governor hopes that anybody who is contesting will use the sanest words; have respect for one another; recognize the fact that we are one family; recognize the need for us to sustain the development trajectory in the state.”

You lied, I never threatened your life – APC spokesman, Morka fires back at Peter Obi
Spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Felix Morka, on Tuesday accused the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of lying about alleged threat to his life.
Morka said contrary to Obi’s claims, he never threatened the life of the former presidential candidate or his family.
Obi had accused Morka of threatening his life following his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in his New Year message.
He asked if he has “really crossed the line” following alleged threats against his life, family, and associates.
Obi’s allegation followed a statement credited to Morka, in an interview with Arise TV on Sunday, where he said, “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times and he has what’s coming to him, and whatever he gets, he should manage it.”
Reacting, Morka asserted that Obi quoted him out of context because he never threatened his life, stressing that the former Anambra State governor should set the record straight.
In a statement he signed, the APC spokesman said: “On his verified official X handle, Mr Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, has alleged, in his own words, that “my New Year Message has now led to threats to my life, my family, and those around me.
“While I have received all sorts of messages, one Mr. Felix Morka has gone further to accuse me of “crossing the line” and has warned that I will face consequences.” Ostensibly, Mr Obi’s allegation is in reference to Morka’s answer to a question during an interview on AriseTV’s THIS WEEK program on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
“To be clear and for the record, Morka did not threaten Mr Obi or his family or those around him or anyone. Morka has absolutely no reason to, and has never, threatened Obi or anyone.
“Nothing that Morka said in that interview or any other forum remotely contains or suggests threat against Mr. Obi or anyone else, as the verbatim transcription of the relevant clip indisputably attests.
“Mr. Obi’s allegation that Morka threatened his life is a self-evident malicious lie and an attention-seeking, playing-the-victim, emotional blackmail. His claim is patently false and reprehensible.
“By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has libeled Morka in the extreme, and has incited his online mob to make death threats against Morka and members of his family.
“That is unacceptable. As a public figure, Mr. Obi bears a responsibility to provide accurate and truthful information. Instead, he has chosen to peddle falsehood and mislead Nigerians in quest for political currency and relevance.
“We call on Mr. Obi to immediately set the record straight, withdraw his false allegation against Morka, and call his online supporters to order. Morka, stands ready to explore all available recourse mechanisms in valiant defence of his decency and impeccable reputation.
“As the National Spokesman of the ruling Party, I will continue to hold Obi and other opposition actors accountable for their actions just as they seek to, and should, hold our great Party and administration accountable, when truth and public trust are compromised.”

2027: Northern leaders shouldn’t interfere in selection of candidates – Kwankwaso
Leader of the NNPP and former governor of Kano state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed displeasure at the way some few Northerners who declared themselves as the leaders of the North” were interfering in the selection of candidates, especially in the presidential election.
He said it was wrong for such people to claim they represent the region.
The former governor said that their action was causing division in the community and hindering democracy by electing leaders who were not qualified.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso said that events that unfolded in the previous elections should make the leaders refrain from anything related to the selection of candidates and allow the people to choose who they really want to be president.
“This oppressive thing they are doing is causing discord in the community. Whatever you do, do it based on the truth. It should not be said that the elders, some of them are our parents and some of them are brothers, especially in this area, here in the north and west, they shouldn’t show favouritism in bringing out candidates,” he said.
He added that “many of them come to spread lies, gather people, and tell them that the North has agreed on its candidates, and all these people are not more than two or three, but you see a man going and saying lies, instead of going to Port Harcourt or going to Abuja to go and promote us, who are their children, but then they go and show favouritism.”
He recalled that during the 2019 election, in which seven candidates came from the Northwest, “Even if you are a former governor, you are there; if you are a former minister, you are there, whether you want to be tall or short, but in the end that’s how they went and dumped us and did what they wanted.”
The former governor also denied rumours making the rounds that an agreement had been reached between him and the former presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar of PDP and Peter Obi of LP, that each of them will be president for a term.
He said he was not aware of such arrangements, even though he learnt that the Atiku group was holding meetings with local leaders, including Mallams, ahead of 2027.
“This issue really hurts me. It is said that the elders are lying; they are saying things that have not been done. I was told that about forty-five Mallams were gathered, and they are telling the people. But there is no such thing. I am not at all happy about this thing’,” he said.
“They were told that I agree that Atiku will serve for four years, I will also serve for four, and Peter Obi will serve for eight years. this pact does not exist; it has not been made” Kwankwaso said.
