CAN Drags FG To Court Over CAMA

The Christian Association of Nigeria has dragged the federal government to court over the controversial Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 popularly called CAMA.

According to a statement which was obtained on Monday via its General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, the CAN said it was not comfortable with some provisions of CAMA 2020, hence, its decision to challenge the matter in court.
The suit which is marked No FHC/ABJ/CS/244/2021 is between the Incorporated Trustees of Christian Association of Nigeria; and the Corporate Affairs Commission as well as the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and, it was filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja, the statement said.
According to the statement, the case got mentioned at the Federal High Court Abuja, on Monday.
The bill which has been passed by the National Assembly to replace the 1990 CAMA was signed into law as the Companies and Allied Matters Bill, 2020 by President Muhammadu Buhari had on August 7, 2020.
Top clerics and human rights communities in the country have since rejected the law, especially the section 839 (1) and (2).
