…Make Case For Road Dualisation
The Hon. Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, received a thank-you visit from the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and the Senator representing the Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, for the rapid progress of work on the 34-Km Ikorodu Itokin Road, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation. In 1975, Messr. Taylor Woodrow constructed the road while General Yakubu Gowon and General Mobolaji Johnson were in power.
This was made known on Thursday in a statement by Enitan Olukotun, the Media Aide to Senator Tokunbo Abiru.
Remember that Senator Abiru introduced a resolution on “The Urgent Need For The Rehabilitation Of The Ikorodu-Sagamu And Ikorodu-Itoikin- Epe Roads To Further Bridge The Infrastructure Gap And Enhance Economic Growth In Nigeria” on the floor of the Nigerian Senate in April 2021.
Senator Abiru persuaded the Senate of the importance of the two roads to the nation’s economic growth because they serve as access points from other parts of the country, including Ogun, Edo, and the Northern parts, as well as routes to the New Lekki-Ibeju corridor, which houses a major refinery, Lagos Deep Seaport, and Free Trade Zone, among other things.
The governor and senator both advocated for the road’s dualization, which is now a single carriageway. The minister pledged that design for the dualization would begin quickly, as rehabilitation continued.
The continuing restoration and stability of the corridor in preparation for rebuilding has substantially enhanced the travel experience. Motorists and inhabitants along the axis report that the journey from Itamaga to Itokin bridge now takes less than 30 minutes, compared to up to 2 hours prior to restoration.
They praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his ongoing support and commitment to completing the road repair and other road development projects around the country.
