The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Architect Sodiq Obanoyen, has reviewed Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s first 300 days in office.

The assessment was made known in a statement on Wednesday by the Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party CTC Publicity Secretary, Aare Amerijoye DOT.B.

According to him: “The Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party insists that far from the grand spectacle, Oyebanji would have Ekiti people to believe, his tenure has been nothing more than a conduit for federal allocation redistribution, with no tangible impact on the lives of the Ekiti people”.

The Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemn the attitude the Governor has towards the development of roads and all other sectors of the state.

“Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party wishes to say that the condition of Ekiti’s roads is a good glaring testament to Oyebanji’s lackluster performance. Despite the governor’s patchwork attempts at repair, the roads remain in a deplorable state, easily washed away by floods.

“And the people of Ekiti are left questioning Oyebanji’s contributions to infrastructure, water, agriculture, housing, commerce and industry, education, health, employment generation, and micro-credit facilities. And we will love to add that Ekiti workers deserve more than just their entitled wages; they yearn for relief from the harsh realities of life under the APC government”.

Aare Amerijoye emphasised on how the GDP and the impact of policies can contribute more to the development of the state.

“We would like to say that the true measure of a government’s performance lies in the growth of its GDP and the impact of its policies on this growth and several other indices can be used to evaluate the development of a state and the effectiveness of its government. These include the Human Development Index (HDI), the Inequality-adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI), the Gender Inequality Index (GII), the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“How does Oyebanji’s tenure fare against these indices? We ask. Has he made any significant strides or is he merely amusing the people of Ekiti with populist narratives of development?

“By using these indices to track the progress of his government and compare it with previous administrations, it becomes clear that Oyebanji’s performance is far from spectacular.

“His actions mirror those of his predecessors, and we have generously highlighted areas where he should focus his efforts to improve development outcomes.

“We suggest that Oyebanji, who seems keen on paying homage to former PDP governors, should take a leaf from their book, not for populist reasons, but for the sake of learning.

“Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party would like to say that the pomp and circumstance surrounding Oyebanji’s 300 days in office do not align with the struggles of the Ekiti people. It is disconcerting to see Oyebanji preoccupied with his covert second-term ambitions, attempting to dazzle the people of Ekiti with his populist tactics. His first term is still in its infancy, and we urge him to focus on breaking new ground.

“His claims of achievement within his first 300 days pale in comparison to the accomplishments of any PDP governor within the same timeframe, he stated.
